Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Restorative Dentistry in the Oral Health Department at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a full time post although part time will be considered and has been created to extend the current service to head and neck patients.
The appointee will work within a wider team of Consultants in OMFS (head and neck and orthognathic), oncology (head and neck), orthodontics and plastic Surgery (Cleft) providing multidisciplinary care. Working effectively with the Out-patient Sister, Operations Manager and Service Director to support and expand the existing restorative dentistry service at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital.
The Department of Oral Health includes the specialties of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Restorative Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Prosthetics. Our immediate catchment population is in excess of 600,000. The department has close working links with both the James Paget hospital in Gt Yarmouth (JPH) and the Queen Elizabeth hospital (QEH) in Kings Lynn. The head and neck MDT has a catchment population of 1.4 million people and includes QEH, JPH and part of the catchment for the new Ipswich and Colchester hospitals trust ESNEFT. The head and neck team is one of the larger units in the country. We are a sub-regional centre for facial deformity providing combined Orthognathic treatment with one of the highest throughputs regionally and the least complications. The department is part of the centralized hub and spoke framework for management of Cleft Lip and Palate with monthly clinics and close liaison with Plastic Surgery, Clinical Psychology, Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry Speech and language Therapy, Paediatrics and Paediatric Dentistry. The department is recognised as a centre for specialist training to St3 and St8 level in oral and maxillofacial surgery and orthodontics. The orthodontic trainees also have close links with Kings College, London.
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of acute clinical services through the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (1,000 beds) and Cromer and District Hospital, including more specialist services such as oncology and radiotherapy, neonatology, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, rheumatology, paediatric medicine and surgery.
Our staff of over 7,000 treat more than one million patients; people from Norfolk, neighbouring counties and further afield. Our patients are referred to us by around 100 local GP practices but also from other acute hospitals and primary care trusts around the country.
As a university teaching hospital we have developed our research and development strategy in partnership with the University of East Anglia.
We also work closely with our partners on the Norwich Research Park and Norwich Radiology Academy to take forward our ambitious targets for research and development.
