Commissioning Engineer

The role of the Commissioning Engineer is to ensure that following installation of the Company system the equipment is set to work, tested, demonstrated and signed off by the customer, all in accordance with the approved design and to achieve completion of the works.

The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for:

  • Liaising with Project Managers and mechanical & electrical sub-contract installers to gain knowledge and understanding of the system to be commissioned.
  • Testing and setting to work Company systems.
  • Interfacing with Fire Alarm and Building Management Contractors to ensure the Company system works in conjunction with smoke & fire detections systems and any other systems as required.
  • Final testing, demonstration and training to client.
  • Ensuring Commissioning Certificate is signed by Customer.

REPORTS TO: Commissioning Manager

  • Administrative Requirements
  • Check on a daily basis the Commissioning Diary, maintained by Commissioning Manager, to identify required whereabouts
  • Liaise with Post Order administration to update Commissioning Diary with regard to any changes to working hours, movement of projects, sickness or holidays.
  • Liaise with Project Managers, sub-contractors and other Personnel (as required) to understand project requirements and any specific commissioning needs.
  • Obtain/download information, drawings and software via the Company system/network to gain familiarisation of project specifics prior to site attendance.
  • Compile method statements, risk assessments & site reports as and when required.
  • Check on a daily basis and reply as necessary to emails.
  • Ensure the Commissioning Certificate is signed by the customer and returned to Post Order Administration at the earliest possible opportunity.
  • Setting to Work
  • Check equipment and installation in line with project specification, requirements, drawings and relevant standards.
  • Carry out static electric checks and record readings.
  • Apply power to control panel(s).
  • Download software & fit labels for OPV systems.
  • Check system addresses in line with schematic/software & modify as required.
  • Check operation of equipment and rotation of fans.
  • Check control operation & carry out modifications if required.
  • Program & set parameters on variable speed drives (when fitted).
  • Prove system in line with cause & effect.
  • Fault finding any system or equipment failures & report back findings to Project Manager.
  • Carry out velocity & volume checks on powered extract & pressurisation systems and record readings.
  • Balance ducted air systems & staircase pressurisation systems.
