Cloud Data Architect

Posted 1 March by Virgin Money

Virgin Money’s quest to build a better bank is underway with the build of the Virgin Money Digital Bank (VMDB). We’re looking for dynamic people that have the ambition to shape the business they will one day be responsible for running.

This start-up business will need to be designed from the top down and built from the bottom up; as such the Cloud Data Architect will be a critical role in the design, development and implementation of VMDB’s cloud environment. The successful applicant will also work closely with the wider VMDB technology team to ensure alignment of requirements and the delivery of a world class cloud environment for the benefit of Virgin Money.

The Cloud Data Architect will design the key components of a next generation data platform including a fully governed and managed data lake and design governed, managed, scalable and compliant data ingestion processing pipelines. You’ll design logical and physical data models for various modern data storage and analytics engines and also manage a team of cloud data engineers to deliver code to develop new products and features. You’ll have the ability to augment the data engineering team through hands-on coding and design tools, frameworks and dashboards to support the data governance initiatives. We’ll look to you to bring external data architecture and design best practices, all whilst keeping abreast of new tools and ways of working that will improve the efficiency of VMDB’s data platform.

To be brilliant in this role, you’ll ideally be experienced in: developing large scale data architecture for a multi-TB traditional relational data warehouse environment; developing large scale data architecture for a Hadoop environment with at least Hive, Pig, Oozie and Spark and design scalable data integration jobs, workflows and orchestration; working within an Agile/Dev Ops/Continuous Delivery environment; working with RDMS databases.
