We require a SO15 Civilian Investigator to cover an existing workload within Metropolitan Police, team based in Empress State Building (Predominately remote working).

This is an interim position for an initial 6 months with the potential to be extended, dependent on workload.

Job Purpose:

  • The Metropolitan Police are seeking to hire experienced criminal investigators to conduct the pursuit of various lines of enquiry in support of criminal investigations being undertaken by the SO15 Counter Terrorism Command and by the MO6 Public Order Policing Command.
  • Successful candidates will be posted as Police Staff Investigators and will undertake actions under the direction of a Detective Sergeant. These could include CCTV enquiries and taking witness statements, applying for communications data under the Investigatory Powers Act, conducting open-source research, conducting research on Police digital databases and analysis of the content of digital devices seized during the course of arrests and investigations.
  • Many of the enquiries can be done remotely and where this is possible remote working is supported following induction and set-up of systems on a work-issued laptop.
  • Where enquiries cannot be undertaken remotely or in cases where successful candidates do not wish to work remotely – the location of this work is at the Counter Terrorism Operations Centre near Earl’s Court, or other local police stations where work is undertaken on behalf of the Public Order Policing Command. This role is predominantly Monday to Friday within business hours.

Key Tasks

  • Undertake training (provided by the MPS) to familiarise themselves with the latest digital device content analysis systems.
  • Pursue lines of enquiry at the direction of the Detective Sergeant.
  • Assist in the preparation of criminal prosecution files for the Crown Prosecution Service both pre and post charge.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in the taking of witness statements.
  • Proficiency in the applying for communications data under the Investigatory Powers Act.
  • Must have experience investigating volume crime in an English/Welsh police service within the last five years.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and confident in their ability to write reports based on the outcome of lines of enquiry.
  • Experience investigating serious and complex crime in an English / Welsh police service within the last five years.
  • PIP qualified – level 1 or level 2.
