Cisco Network and Security Engineer - York, Leeds (North Yorkshire)

Cisco Network and Security Engineer sought by global market leader at their state of the art offices in York, easily commutable from Leeds (North Yorkshire).

This is not a senior role so while demonstrable experience in most of the following technologies would be a huge benefit, this is more an indication of the kind of skills you can look to pick up during the course of your continued employment.

Networking

-Core Networking technologies (mandatory)

-Cisco’s switching and routing product line to CCNA level

-Brocade (Foundry Networks) experience advantageous

-Experience of managing a switched network and issues that can occur in this environment

-Routed network management (WAN and LAN) and an understanding of various routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP and BGP

-Understanding of MPLS concepts (layer 2 and layer 3 VPN)

-Demonstrable understanding of different load balancing methods and concepts. This may include Cisco hardware load balancers such as Cisco CSS11500 series, Cisco 6500 CSM module or Cisco 6500 ACE module

Firewall/Security

Core Firewall technologies (mandatory)

Checkpoint platforms

Checkpoint administration including rulebase, site to site VPN configuration. Ability to troubleshoot Checkpoint related issues in an efficient manner

Administration of Cisco PIX/ASA appliances

Understanding of IPS/IDS concepts

The role:

My client is seeking a highly motivated network professional who will work as part of a team supporting and developing enterprise services and environments. The role will require working closely with clients at many levels to provide the highest quality technical services, support and project resource. As well as being highly client facing, a broad understanding of enterprise infrastructures is required.

Responsibilities:

-Support of network and firewall systems and services in a multi-customer managed services environment

-Ensure the availability of customer systems, applications and infrastructure by pro-active maintenance and monitoring

-Implement agreed support procedures

-Provide technical resource and support during service design/transition as directed

-Provide on-call and out-of-hours support as required
