MIDAS is looking to appoint a Business Development Manager for Low Carbon to join our Advanced Manufacturing and Low Carbon team to play a key role in driving efforts to identify, develop and attract new businesses to Greater Manchester, securing investment and creating jobs.

The key to this position is the ability to manage and build relationships, with both local ecosystem partners and wider business connections, to develop and present Greater Manchester’s proposition, ensuring it accurately reflects the region’s unique strengths, opportunities, and attributes, and alignment with emerging sector trends.

We are seeking an experienced business professional with an entrepreneurial approach, who is adept at building strategic relationships and can demonstrate a record of achievement, creativity, and flair.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achievement of an annual target of inward investment successes for both new direct investment and expansion within existing Greater Manchester foreign-owned companies.
  • Project manage individual investment enquiries, providing a bespoke service that meets all client needs.
  • Account management of Greater Manchester-based businesses on behalf of the local authorities of Greater Manchester at a strategic decision-making level.
  • Support colleagues in their account management by providing expert input into their decarbonisation planning and implementation.
  • Manage and develop MIDAS’ relationships with key Greater Manchester stakeholders across the Low Carbon sector to maximise the opportunities for collaboration to grow Greater Manchester’s Low Carbon economy.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the sector within MIDAS and the Growth Company and with external partners and stakeholders, providing expert insight and advice, with an insight into global sector trends and opportunities.
  • Develop a collaborative network of external stakeholders, multipliers, and representative bodies to raise the City Region’s profile, identify new leads, and create opportunities for joint working to increase the size and value of the pipeline.
  • Targeting of national and international companies, developing and building long-term strategic relationships with key decision makers, typically at the C-suite level, within a range of global and fast-growing businesses.
  • Events attendance, representing Greater Manchester, and achievement of pre-agreed activity and ROI targets.

About you:

  • Experienced in B2B consultative sales and relationship management, with evidence of prospecting, business growth, and network development, preferably within the Low Carbon or Advanced Manufacturing sectors.
  • Able to identify and develop long term partnerships with key customers to create the optimal environment for inward investment.
  • Good understanding of the full sales cycle, from research and planning to marketing and lead generation; through to project management; closing the deal and aftercare.
  • Experienced and skilled negotiator, able to influence at the most senior level.
  • A team player, with experience of working with and through others to achieve results.
  • Excellent presentation and event networking skills.
  • National/International travel as required, up to 3-4 weeks per year.
  • Knowledge of the Low Carbon sector. Experience of international markets, particularly the US, Europe, India, China & Japan is desirable but not essential.
