Band 8B Head of Patient Safety and Risk

Our client is looking for a post holder who will lead the processes that support the Trust’s patient safety and risk agenda.

Location: East London

Pay rate:£28.00 - £31.00 PAYE £32.00 - £37.00 Umbrella (Depending on payment option and experience)

Type of role: Temporary expected to be for 3 months minimum

Hours: Monday - Friday (9am - 5pm) 37.5 hours per week

Duties will include:

  • Lead the process and management of serious incident investigation, and responses to local and national initiatives for improving Patient safety, across the Trust.
  • Lead the process and management of risk identification, management.
  • Will ensure that relevant patient safety initiatives are undertaken and reported and that improvement activity is undertaken as part of the Trust’s Quality Assurance Framework in order that patient safety is monitored and improved.
  • Will manage the Quality and Patient Safety Managers providing operational support to the divisions to deliver the quality agenda in relation to patient safety and clinical effectiveness
  • Liaise with the CSU and other monitoring bodies where necessary around the incident investigation process
  • Act as the Trust’s expert advisor on patient safety and risk management ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, national and local policy,
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that the patient safety agenda and risk management is embedded throughout the organisation by providing support, advice and guidance on all aspects of risk and patient safety.
  • Ensure that Datix incident reporting systems are functional and fit for purpose with clear governance and training to ensure recording, reporting and managing data is effective.
  • Lead the delivery of processes to support the Trust’s patient safety and risk agenda including investigations, safety alerts, safety campaigns and new local or national patient safety initiatives
  • Establish and maintain effective communications systems across the Trust so that information can be shared and effective problem solving processes are implemented, ensuring there are good communication systems between the Quality and Risk team, the organisation and stakeholders.
  • Take responsibility for establishing and coordinating a robust programme of patient safety activities across the Trust.
  • To ensure that Trust priorities relating to patient safety and risk are effectively monitored and reported
  • Work with the Head of Clinical Quality Assurance to lead, manage and embed quality governance systems and reporting across the Trust.
  • Support Clinical Divisions to ensure they have appropriate arrangements in place to manage and monitor patient safety and that relevant clinical indicators are measured and reported.
  • To produce reports including Trust performance against relevant patient safety indictors and lessons learnt/actions taken to improve patient safety.
  • To ensure the Trust participates in relevant national or mandated patient safety initiatives.

Experience required

  • At least 5 years experience working in risk management within the NHS
  • Experience of leading incident investigations and root cause analysis techniques
  • 3-4 years experience of working as a senior member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Previous experience in developing and implementing organisation wide projects
  • Experience in developing, Trust wide policies
  • Lead the delivery of processes to support the Trust’s patient safety and risk agenda including investigations, safety alerts, safety campaigns and new local or national patient safety initiatives

Essential

  • Leading on the delivery of trust wide processes to support delivery of the patient safety agenda in an acute Trust’s including investigations, safety alerts, safety campaigns and new local or national patient safety initiatives
  • Leading on the process and management of serious incident investigations ensuring delivery to key targets
  • Establishing and coordinating programmes of patient safety activities at an organisational level including relevant national or mandated patient safety initiatives.
  • Produce reports for Trust Board on performance against relevant patient safety indictors and lessons learnt/actions taken to improve patient safety.
  • Liaising on behalf of an organisation including commissioners on patient safety incidents
  • Managing and leading a team of staff (approx. 6)
  • Datix experience over and above standard user
