Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner

We are seeking a mental health practitioner to work in a strong multi-disciplinary setting delivering a service for young people and their carers / parents in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Leicestershire. The post holder(s) will be working within the Young People’s Team.

The Young People’s Team is one of the specialist teams based within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, for children and young people deemed to be at high risk of developing mental health disorders; serving children and young people living in Local Authority Care, Adopted Children, Homeless children and young people known to the Youth Offending Services.

The Young People’s Team is multi-disciplinary, based at Westcotes House and receives referrals of young people up to the age of 18 years and covers the entire spectrum of mental health disorders. The team is well established and can provide good levels of supervision and a personal development programme to help achieve further relevant training targets.

The post holder will be managing a defined caseload as a qualified clinician, providing Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services across the team. The post holder must therefore have a relevant core profession (e.g. CPN, OT, Social worker) and be experienced in mental health. Experience of working with one or more of the client groups served by YPT is essential for this post. The post holder must have a well-developed knowledge of the impact of abuse and trauma on children and the implications of this in practice. Accredited therapeutic training is desirable.

We are a large multi-disciplinary service of over 180 professional staff serving a general population of nearly 1 million. Our CAMHS service is comprehensive and in addition to three outpatient teams has specialist teams which in addition to the Young People’s Team include inpatient adolescent services, learning disabilities, primary mental health services, looked after children, Paediatric psychology and a crisis and home intervention service. We strongly encourage research and post qualification training and have good links with the department of psychology of Leicester University. We are well resourced for equipment and clinical resources.

This post is for 30 hours on a 18 month Fixed term contract to cover an internal secondment.
