Assurance Associate (Operations)

Reporting to the Assurance Manager

Based in Teesside at Wilton International

Position Overview:

The Sembcorp UK Assurance team is a Line 2 function reporting to the Head of Risk, pioneering Risk & Control Assurance in the UK, to ultimately influence the global model. Working collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, the function is expected to give Senior Management comfort that the control environment is operating as designed, whilst also highlighting any weaknessses and opportunities for improvement, making operationally and commercially pragmatic recommendations for the business to take forward.

This role, reporting to the Assurance Manager, is to be based at Sembcorp UK’s headquarters at the Wilton International site on Teesside, and is focused on providing assurance over the operational aspects of Sembcorp’s energy generation and battery storage portfolio. The role does require an element of travel, visiting the sites throughout the UK to liaise with operational staff, and perform on-site activities. The role also includes an element of flexibility within the Assurance team, to cover SEUK Business Functions assurance activities as demand requires.

You will also be expected to demonstrate the appropriate behaviours and commitment towards health and safety to ensure we maintain our first-class safety culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a program of work to provide assurance that Sembcorp UK has effective and efficient processes in place to mitigate key risks, with a focus on OEM (Operations, Engineering, Maintenance).
  • Develop the Assurance Framework to ensure that assurance activity considers stakeholder feedback, industry best practice, and Group requirements.
  • Testing of control activities, to provide assurance that they are designed appropriately, and operating effectively.
  • Ensure that statutory regulatory and legislative requirements are evidenced through Sembcorp UK practices, and that any changes are incorporated and implemented.
  • Review and approval of business critical policies and procedures.
  • Perform data analysis to identify opportunities for improvement, and areas of risk.
  • Produce risk-based reports, communicating assurance findings to top management along with recommendations for remediation.
  • Collaborate with other assurance providers, both internal and external.
  • Track and validate both completion and effectiveness of action taken.
  • Identify and routinely report on key metrics to demonstrate the positive impact oif the assurance fuinction.

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in STEM subjects is preferred, other relevant qualifications will be considered.
  • Quality Management qualifications (ISO Lead Auditor etc.) are preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in Assurance, Audit, Quality Assurance, Governance, or Investigation role. Preference is given to experience in Industrial / Operational roles.
  • Experience in data analytics will be advantageous.
  • Ability to operate with minimum supervision on multiple projects. Must be able to prioritise workload in reaction to the business and functional needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (verbal and written) to comfortably communicate with all levels of the business and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
  • Ability to learn quickly, work independently, and maintain a level of professional scepticism.
  • Good analytical and critical thinking skills are required to identify irregularities, internal control gaps and areas for improvements.
  • A full UK driving licence is required.
  • Right to work in the UK is essential.
