SEN LSA - Mental Health - Dorking - Education and Training - February 2021 start - SEN LSA - Mental Health - Dorking

Alternative Provisions for vulnerable students are very much still open and operational and we are actively recruiting for opportunities in Learning Support.

This SEN LSA role will place you in a specialist provision, working with some of the most vulnerable children in society. The aim of this role is to show the value of education where the mainstream curriculum hasn't worked for these students - this role is about showing them a new way, valuing education and keeping them out of the criminal justice system.

Punitive approaches do not work here - you need to be empathetic and understand the process that the school is putting in place. Incremental processes are key, patience and pragmatism will serve you well. This role is all about positive reinforcement and understanding mental health and the contexts of the vulnerable children you are working with.

Ideal role if you are an Aspiring Youth, Social or Criminal Justice Officer - The focus here is on Mental Health and Restorative Practices. If you have aspirations within Psychology, Education or Social Care, this is the perfect experience that you will need to have and be involved in to ensure this the environment and career path for you.

The role is within a Specialist Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school for boys who have been excluded from their mainstream education. All will have an EHCP and a range of needs, they have all been let down by the adult world. As a result, empathy and patience are key in this role - the seeds you plant to aid students in their behaviour and recovery you will not often get to see grow as it is a long process. There are no magic answers or miracle cures.
