Apprentice Accountant

Our client is offering the opportunity for an individual to become part of a dynamic and entrepreneurial company, with innovation, technology and sustainability at the heart of everything they do. Their services cover the physical trading of sugar, ingredients and packaging, as well as the provision of value added service such as: Logistics and Stock Management; Sustainable Supply Programmes; Price Risk Management; Market Analysis; Financing; and Corporate Finance.

They are looking for someone to perform a full range of accounts and treasury related assignments such as reconciliations, ledger maintenance and ad hoc requirements while completing an accountancy qualification.

Tasks & Responsibilities

Daily

  • Reconcile debt factoring accounts against the ledger
  • Manage the daily FX process ensuring correct action is taken to support foreign currency transactions on any given day
  • Monitor and post cash receipts on group bank accounts when needed
  • Resolve queries with front office, operations and finance teams
  • Manage the petty cash and foreign currencies advances for business travel and reconcile the advances against receipts and returned funds
  • Maintain designated accounts regularly to ensure data integrity
  • Provide support to the treasury team

Month end

  • Review a number of overseas subsidiaries
  • Take responsibility for various areas of the accounts, e.g. prepayments and overheads
  • Involvement in preparing and submitting monthly VAT returns, European sales list and Intrastat report
  • Office of National Statistics reporting
  • Ensure postings within control accounts are appropriate
  • Count and agree petty cash and put support on file
  • Reconcile the loan accounts to confirmations from banks
  • Post intercompany transactions and agree intercompany position with overseas subsidiaries
  • Other ad hoc tasks as required

Ad hoc

  • Complete an accountancy qualification (ACCA or CIMA)
  • Identify control improvements and efficiency opportunities around the existing processes
  • Assist with the development/testing/implementation of new systems
  • Assist with budget preparation when required
  • Support the external audit process
  • To take responsibility for your performance and to work together to achieve our organizational goals
  • To attend training courses which are identified as being necessary for the performance of the role
  • To be fully conversant with the Employee Handbook and supporting policies, including Health & Safety legislation and fire and emergency procedures
  • To comply with any reasonable instruction issued by your manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Focus on Business and Commerce
  • Interest in Commodities/Trading
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
