Hays Recruitment are proud to be working with a mainstream primary school in the Runcorn area as they require an experienced and motivated Teaching Assistant to support two students on a 1:1 basis. You will spend the mornings supporting a student in Year 5 with ASD and the afternoons supporting a Year 3 student with moderate learning difficulties. This is an ongoing full-time contract with an immediate start available.

Your new role
In your new role as an SEN Teaching Assistant you will be supporting two pupils on a 1:1 basis. Within this role your day will consist of supporting a Year 5 pupil with complex autism during the mornings and a Year 3 pupil with moderate learning difficulties in the afternoon. During the mornings, you will support a year 5 student with their daily routine and transitions between lessons. You will offer a safe and inclusive environment by taking a person-centred approach to their learning and the effective use of sensory stimulation as well as the effective use of PEC's, Makaton and visual communicative aids. In the afternoons you will be working in the year 3 class and working on a 1:1 basis with a student with moderate learning disabilities. Holding 1:1 intervention and booster sessions in core subjects, aiding with phonics, literacy and numeracy as required. In both classes, you will work under the instruction of the class teacher and regularly liaise with teachers, SENCO and parents'/guardians' on the students' progress.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days referenceable experience working with children or young people in the last 2 years, as well as:

  • Previous experience with ASD and/or LD
  • Previous experience using PECs and Makaton is highly advantageous but not essential
  • A willingness to learn
