What we do

Homes Caring for Autism was created in 2003 by Richard and Shirley Smith. With autism and learning disability within their family, they were driven to provide better and more specialised services in their local area in Somerset. Today the company’s specialised services cover the towns of Taunton, Bridgwater, Burnham on Sea and Berrow in Somerset, Weston super Mare in North Somerset, and Trowbridge in Wiltshire, with over sixty people who are autistic with a learning disability being supported.

Our aim is to empower autistic individuals, using passion and creativity, to achieve what others may never have thought possible.

The company employs over 300 staff and the training and development of those people is something Richard and Shirley and our senior operations team are passionate about. That’s why we invested in a dedicated Recruitment and Training centre close to the company head office in Weston super Mare.
Homes Caring for Autism delivers genuine opportunities for career progression. At present 80% of our home managers started with the company in a support worker role and others have moved into training and HR roles within the company.

For people working towards a management role, we have a ‘Rising Stars’ programme to help them along the way. For our existing managers, we have a Management Development programme to support their ongoing development. With the support and training you will receive from our very passionate and dedicated team, it’s an exciting time to be joining Homes Caring for Autism.

This is the best job i have ever done. We all help promote independence, give high quality of life to all individuals we support, and always try hard to keep improving and move forward to help all people involved. If you would like a rewarding career then this is the job."

"Caring and supportive employer

Ensuring the individuals are at the forefront of everything we do, using person centred approaches and individuals preferred communication.

I have worked for the company for just over 4 years and have progressed through different roles during this time; receiving support from line managers, area and regional managers.

There is high expectations from management as we strive to be the best autism specific care provider. These expectations are set out in a away that they are achievable and people in each job role can strive to reach each goal.

The hours can be long but this is balanced out by having 3/4 days a week off."
