Logistics HGV Planner
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Logistics HGV Planner to join our transport and operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating HGV movements across our network, ensuring deliveries are efficient, compliant, and cost-effective.This is a varied and fast-paced position combining route planning, fleet coordination, capacity forecasting, space optimisation, and data analysis. You will work closely with drivers, warehouse teams, customers, and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and support continuous improvement.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan and optimise HGV routes to ensure timely, efficient deliveries and optimal fuel usageCoordinate daily transport operations and act as a key point of contact for drivers and warehouse teamsMonitor fleet utilisation, vehicle availability, and maintenance schedulesSupport compliance with transport legislation, health & safety standards, and drivers’ hours regulationsAnticipate capacity constraints and implement solutions ahead of timeResolve operational issues such as delays, breakdowns, or last-minute schedule changesMaintain accurate transport and capacity data using WMS and TMS systemsProduce regular performance and utilisation reports, including KPIs such as cost per pallet, throughput, efficiency, and storage utilisationSupport space optimisation through effective storage layout and slotting strategiesIdentify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to continuous improvement initiativesWork closely with operations, procurement, and project teams on new warehouse set-ups or expansionsSkills & ExperiencePrevious experience in transport planning, logistics coordination, or a similar roleStrong organisational and problem-solving skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentConfident using data and reporting tools to support decision-makingGood communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionallyA logistics, transport, or supply chain qualification is desirable but not essentialA valid UK driving licence is beneficial but not mandatoryWhat’s in It for YouCompetitive salary based on experienceOpportunities for career progression and professional developmentPension scheme and additional company benefitsSupportive and collaborative working environmentFlexible working hours may be considered
