Pantaenius has been arranging yacht insurance since 1970 and with over 50 years experience is one of the UK's most respected providers for leisure marine insurance. Our offices are spread across Europe and Australia with 2 offices in the UK. Joining a team of 2 other Claims Handlers and a Claims Manager, this role would be based in our waterfront Plymouth office overlooking Plymouth Sound, however there may also scope to work out of our Southampton office.

Practical experience with either sailing or motor yachts would be an advantage as you will be expected to converse with clients in some detail regarding technical aspects of boat repairs, though training will be given. It will be expected that you will have some background in finance, insurance or more technical administration as you will be required achieve the Chartered Insurance Institute Certificate in Insurance within 12 months of your start date.

Duties of the role are:

Take incoming phone calls from existing clients advising new or potential claims

  • Take first claim notification, completing appropriate forms.
  • Provide the caller with advice and information as necessary.
  • Instruct a surveyor to inspect the damage and assess the claim on behalf of the insurers if appropriate.
  • Assess the claim on the information provided and estimate the claim reserve if appropriate.
  • Create a claim file and computer record and/or send out claim forms.
  • Pass on to more experienced/qualified staff all calls outside the scope of own knowledge.

Process claims - under delegated authority

  • Receive claim forms, check and validate against policy.
  • Process claims within own delegated authority, updating reserves and booking payments as and when required.
  • Pass claims outside own delegated authority to the appropriate person.
  • Liaise with insurers, surveyors and lawyers as and when necessary.
  • Respond to client telephone calls and correspondence maintaining regular contact and advising and informing the client as appropriate.
  • Inform Managers/Directors/Insurers of any contentious issues or high value claims and problem files as appropriate.
  • Maintain and implement a diary system for regular review of client claim files.
  • Maintain client claim files until the file is closed.

Process claims - not under delegated authority

  • Liaise with and assist the client at all times in the handling of his claim under his insurance arranged through Pantaenius.
  • Receive documentation from the client, check and pass to the insurers.
  • Receive documentation, forms, correspondence and payments from the insurers, check and advise the client accordingly.
  • Correspond with the client as appropriate until the claim is finalised by the insurers.

Personal Development

  • A minimum industry qualification of Insurance Foundation Certificate is required or Certificate of Insurance Practice if there is any delegated authority and unsupervised decision making.
  • Participate in in-house and external training courses as instructed.
  • Develop a CPD program and identify and participate in CPD activities, including regular scanning of Industry and Yachting Press, and Sailing Codes of Practice.
