AWE's Nuclear Threat Reduction team currently have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer responsible for the design, manufacture, assembly and validation on a broad range of engineering projects.

Location:Aldermaston, West Berkshire. We are located between Reading and Basingstoke, with onsite parking. On-site role.

Package: £35,720 - £44,650 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Applicants must have an understanding of mechanical design and specification with experience of design tools, product realisation and manufacturing techniques.

Ideally you will have demonstrable experience of working on multi-disciplined projects and be familiar with the following areas:

  • Stakeholder engagement and capture of technical requirements.

  • Generating concepts and designs for review, leading to manufacture and validation of mechanical engineering solutions to satisfy customer requirements.

  • Product Lifecycle Management including configuration management and quality control.

  • Material selection and manufacturing methods.

  • 3D modelling and draughting (ideally in Siemens NX)

  • Experience in finite element analysis.

  • Product definition including engineering drawings and geometric tolerance specification.

  • Presenting design solutions for peer and customer review.

  • Experience in managing the manufacture of engineered parts - through from quotation to delivery and acceptance of manufactured parts

  • Experience constructing assemblies and prove out of equipment.

  • Working in a dynamic, fast paced work environment

To be considered for the role, ideally you will have an HNC/HND or degree in a mechanical engineering discipline or proven experience working in a similar environment and possess strong communication skills.

Important things you need to know:

  • You must be a UK national who has been resident in the UK for the past 10 years.

  • Interviews will be 90 minutes in length and will be held over Microsoft Teams. You will be required to prepare a 10-minute presentation in advance.

  • Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE.
