Summary Due to an internal promotion we are now looking to recruit a new Volunteering & Community Manager to join our property team at Derwent, Wear and Coast portfolio. This key leadership role is at the heart of the development and delivery of community and volunteering offer. 
This exciting opportunity will see you involved with community engagement and partnerships, to ensure our volunteering offer grows and develops alongside our property aims and ambitions. You'll be managing complex relationships, lead for volunteer involvement and greater engagement with communities. If you feel ready for a new challenge then please do apply. 
Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week, will include some weekends
Salary: £30,966pa 
Contract: 2 year fixed term contract that may be extended or made permanent

Derwent, Wear and Coast is a newly created portfolio that includes Gibside, Washington old Hall, Penshaw, Crook Hall Gardens, Souter Lighthouse and the Leas and the Durham Coast. As a volunteering and community manager you will manage a team of six staff and take a lead on developing opportunities to broaden our volunteer offer and connect with local communities through partnership working. 

There is flexibility to be based anywhere in the portfolio and you would report into the General Manager and be part of the collaborative leadership team across the portfolio. The leadership team support each other to deliver shared property objectives and ensure the wider team work collaboratively to build an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome and visitors are given a great experience. 

Click here for more information about this location What you'll be doing Reporting to the General Manager you’ll work in partnership with the property leadership team to strategically plan, implement, and evolve volunteering and our work with communities. Coaching colleagues to increase their confidence and capability and creating a positive, flexible, and inclusive environment for volunteers, communities, and partners.
You’ll support the General Manager to develop an inclusive culture and embed the ‘Everyone Welcome’ value. You’ll be a key member of the leadership team and be collectively responsible for the effective operation of the overall property and delivery of the property business plan.
Who we're looking for We would love to hear from people with the following skills/experience:
  • Understanding of good practice in volunteering, volunteer management, community engagement, participation, and partnership working.
  • Understanding of innovation in volunteering and different approaches to participation.
  • Practical and successful experience in developing and implementing innovative approaches to volunteering.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislative requirements relating to the role – including the legal distinctiveness of volunteering.
  • Able to build effective and collaborative relationships with property leadership peers and their teams, and partners.
  • Able to maintain existing, and develop new relationships with community groups and external stakeholders.
