Upholsterer

We are pleased to be working on behalf of our Basildon based client who are seeking an experienced Upholsterer. 

Reporting to the Upholstery Manager you will be required to strip / prepare furniture for reupholstery / upholstery, working with a wide range of fabrics and leathers, including templating, cutting, foam shaping and working with trimmings / finishing’s including buttons, facings, piping, and decorative studs.

Job Responsibilities

To select, measure and cut fabric / leather hides to the exact pattern requirements, including preparing frames by attaching springs, webbing, or adhering foam, prior to applying covering, buttons, facings, piping and decorative studs.

  • To ensure substructures have been manufactured to the correct specification / dimensions 
  • To monitor quality of materials and standards are maintained throughout the upholstery process, ensuring the finished product meets with the clients’ expectations / approved sample 
  • To communicate and report construction / design issues to your supervisor as soon as your aware
  • To promptly report faulty or damaged equipment to your supervisor
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate protection is in place throughout the upholstery process to alleviate any damage incurred 
  • Providing assistance for colleagues within the upholstery department 
  • Communicate effectively with all colleagues consistently at all levels 
  • Ensure continuous improvement of role and development of self
  • Seek to continuously improve the quality and value to the upholstery dept by providing support by working with key colleagues 

Responsible for positively contributing to a safe work environment ensure compliance with relevant statutory requirements and quality standards.  Protect all personal information in adherence with GDPR

  • Complete all mandatory Health and Safety training and any corporate refresher training where required

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Requirements

Qualifications

City & Guilds qualifications (or equivalent) in Modern & Traditional Upholstery 

•        Stage 1 - Craft Certificate 

•        Stage 2 - Intermediate Craft Certificate

•        Stage 3 - Diploma 

Skills

•        Proven upholstery experience

•        Good problem-solving 

•        Demonstrate the ability to read production drawings

•        High level of attention to detail

•        Good communication skills at all levels

•        Cutting and sewing skills would be advantageous

•        Be knowledgeable and skilled in both modern and traditional upholstery techniques

•        Be confident working with all fabrics and leather applications

•        Work to tight delivery programmes, whilst maintaining a high standard finish

 •       Undertake occasional site installations

Hours & Salary

Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm

Paying up to £17.80ph
