Our Client is a market leader in the design, development, and manufacturing of sustainable plastic components and systems, and a top-tier supplier to the automotive, industrial, and healthcare sectors globally.

Over recent years, our Client has made significant investments in operational, infrastructural, and technical capabilities with a focus on robotics and automation, placing them at the forefront of digital adoption and acceleration. They have also recently opened an innovation centre, acquired new business units, established greenfield manufacturing operations in Mexico, and onboarded a new private equity partner to help them achieve their ambitious plans for growth and future expansion.

As a result of their continued transformation and expansion, they are looking to appoint a UK General Manager to provide operational leadership to a headcount of 200+ direct reports across production, quality, logistics, warehousing, HR, and finance. The General Manager will report to the Chief Manufacturing Officer with full P&L responsibility and will play a key role in making business improvements, optimising manufacturing processes (in line with Lean principles), and assist with building out the business's longer-term roadmap and strategy.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the Plant leadership team establishing and communicating expectations and providing a clear vision.
  • Operation Management of 200+ direct and indirect reports and across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Able to work cross-functional, effective at engaging and maintaining trusted relationships with customers, suppliers, stakeholders, different business units, and departments.
  • Full financial performance and P&L responsibility tasked with achieving targets against EBITDA.
  • Drive operational performance through budget planning and weekly/monthly KPI reviews and corrective actions.
  • Create a culture, capability, and process for continuous operational improvement to meet budget objectives in the short term and strategic targets as well as implement corporate standards of manufacturing performance.
  • Meet budget objectives in short-term, long-term, and strategic targets.
  • Ensure the right people, capability, and organization are in place to deliver objectives.
  • Work effectively as part of the Group Leadership Team to deliver on growth ambition.

Background and Requirements

  • Ideally degree educated in engineering or a manufacturing-related discipline.
  • 10 years plus experience in a relevant manufacturing environment (automated and high volume) with a minimum of 5 years at the senior management level ideally as a GM, manufacturing, or operations leader.
  • Strong understanding and experience in lean manufacturing, materials and production planning, quality management systems, and complex global supply chain dynamics.
  • Experience with/a strong understanding of P&L management/EBITDAwithin a relevant manufacturing environment, including experience in budgeting, planning, forecasting, margin management, cost, and variance management.
  • Financial management of medium-large output manufacturing businesses with annual revenues of £10m - £20m upwards.
  • Long-tenured employment with a proven background delivering change and transformation.
  • Experience in leading large teams in a relevant manufacturing environment and delivering transformation.
  • Compliance with health and safety, and other relevant regulations and legislations.
  • Knowledge of the plastics manufacturing process desirable (including injection molding and blow molding).
  • Prior experience in or supplying to the automotive, medical, healthcare, industrial, or related industry sectors desirable.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety regulations such as COSHH, IOSH, and Nebosh.
  • Awareness of quality standards such as ISO 9001, ISO14001 and ISO18001
  • Awareness of Engineering and Manufacturing processes and methodologies such as Lean principles, Six Sigma, 5S, Continuous Improvement, FMEA, and PPAP.
