NXTGEN have a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee Accountant to take on a developmental and progressive role within a expanding market leader at their head office based on the outskirts of Bury St. Edmunds. This role is ideally suited to those who have developed strong foundations within a finance team, perhaps as an Accounts Assistant or within a transactional finance role but are now wanting to get more involved with the month end cycle under the guidance of a Management Accountant. As Trainee Accountant you will work alongside the Senior Management Accountant to deliver the month end close for your business unit, supporting with journal entries and other trial balance activities as well as balance sheet reconciliations. There will also be an opportunity for the Trainee Accountant to also support with some aspects of operational finance, reconciling stock levels and undertaking stock audits before inputting journals at month end. Given the continued financial growth within this business, the successful candidate may find themselves providing ad hoc support on projects or supporting a range of process improvement tasks.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Assist with the delivery of month end management accounts for the business unit, including posting all month end journals
  • Analyse all balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support with payroll processing and analysis, calculating bonuses and overtime before submitting to the payroll team
  • Support with stock reconciliation and reporting, ensuring all accounting journals reflect stock position accurately
  • Ad hoc support to the Senior Management Accountant

The successful candidate will ideally be working towards an AAT qualification and will have prior experience working in Finance function. Study support will be considered for the right candidate. You will have good Excel skills as well as a good eye for detail given the high volumes of reconciliation work within this role. Candidates will need to demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills given this role is seen as a development position within the finance team. Any prior experience of Payroll would be significantly advantageous but not essential. The salary offered for this role is available dependant on experience and qualification. Hybrid working is available in this role and candidates will need to be based within a commutable distance of the offices near Bury St. Edmunds.
