Job Title: Thermal Engineer

Salary: Competitive depending on experience 

Location: Stevenage (we may be able to offer a relocation package for this role)

Dynamic (hybrid) working: typically, 2 to 3 days per week on-site, due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship.

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

The Thermal Analysis Team provides thermal management expertise and solutions across all MBDA products. This is pivotal to the future success of MBDA and the security of the UK in an increasingly unstable world.

As a Thermal Engineer at MBDA, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that will stretch your skills and imagination.

You will be involved in the development of electronic and mechanical equipment in our products as well as underwriting the thermal performance of the systems and their integration into the weapon platforms.

As an important part of the growing Thermal Analysis team, you will have the opportunity to work on the thermal management of air, sea and ground launched missiles, launchers and directed energy weapons. We are also key to the development of future technology in such fields as hypersonic flight, low observability, etc.

Typical activities will range from research & development through to delivery of the product using low and high fidelity thermal modelling, physical testing and liaison with suppliers, customers and other MBDA project team members.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Degree qualified in a subject relevant to the role or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Good problem solving skills coupled with a sound fundamental knowledge of heat transfer analysis using computational methods and manual calculations.
  • Experience applying CAE tools (ANSYS Mechanical/FLUENT/Icepak, MATLAB, Simulink and Python) to investigate heat transfer problems in an industrial environment. We are open to engineers with experience using other similar tool sets and the necessary training will be provided to the successful applicant.
  • Motivated individual who is organised and has strong interpersonal skills.

Desirable:

  • It will be highly advantageous to have considerable Industrial experience, preferably in the thermal management and qualification of electronic or electro-mechanical systems.
  • The ability to achieve DV clearance.
  • Post graduate qualification in a subject relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrable experience leading and managing the delivery of work packages as either an individual or leading small teams.
