An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Accounts Team of a leading 3rd sector organisation in South Wales.

Based in Pontypridd (but with lots of WFH except for a Monday), this role will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to utilise their financial skills and abilities to support a key financial team within the organisation, providing a range of financial services to both Corporate Departments and across the organisation. The Finance Officer will provide support to the Financial Accounting Manager and Senior Finance Officers within the Accounts Production team. They will work across the departments to ensure an effective accounting service delivery for the Finance Department and provide assistance and support to the reporting and accounting processes to enable a successful production of Financial Statements.

The successful candidate will support the Financial Accounting Manager and the Senior Finance Officers within the Accounts Production team by providing timely and effective processing of data for each accounting period. You will also ensure an effective accounting data service delivery for the Finance Department and provide assistance and support to the reporting and accounting processes.

Key responsibilities will include the below -

  • Liaise with faculties, departments, and Finance to ensure timely, accurate production of monthly journals including monitoring of accruals and prepayments.
  • Prepare and enter journals for monthly and annual financial reporting within strict deadlines.
  • Monthly reconciliation of Funding Council Income.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the monthly reporting reconciliations.
  • Maintain and reconcile the multicurrency and Subsidiary bank accounts.
  • To assist with accounting tasks relating to the organisation’s reporting requirements such as preparation of financial accounts, VAT Returns.
  • To monitor daily cash flows and assist in producing monthly cash flow forecasts.
  • To assist with the investment of funds and help with the production of various treasury reports to enable effective management information.
  • Work closely with departments to ensure the fixed asset register is up to date and accurately reflects additions and disposals in a timely manner.
  • Deal with banking and receipt allocation.
  • Manage and post all income received, including the Online Store and BACs receipted directly to the bank.
  • To assist with the organisation’s taxation requirements.
  • Amend and develop written guidelines, processes within the Accounts Production team to ensure best practice.
  • To provide an accounting support and advice service to all departments.
  • To undertake other work as directed by the Financial Accounting Manager.
  • Undertake other such duties commensurate with the role.

The ideal candidate will possess the below skills / attributes -

  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients at all levels.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative.
  • Ability to work to and achieve prescribed deadlines.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong accounting skills including reconciliation work, journals, accounts preparation.
  • Effective use of Microsoft Office packages including Excel (VLOOKUP’s and Pivots) and Word.
  • Use of Finance systems.
  • Experience of working within a Finance Department and within an Accounting environment.
  • Methodical and professional approach, with a flexibility in relation to working patterns.
  • Support the core values and 'live’ them in your day-to-day activities at work.
  • High standards of integrity and professionalism.
  • It is desirable that you understand accounting techniques and taxation
  • It is desirable that you have a degree level IT/ Finance related.
  • The ability to speak and/or write in Welsh is desirable but not essential.
