JOB Profile SUMMARY
Job Title Telecoms Asset Manager
Reports to Telecomms Manager, Last Mile Access and Service - Operational Technology
Main Purpose of JOB
To forecast and manage the health of various communications systems detailed in Knowledge section, supporting operation of the Electricity Networks north & south to ensure integrity and service is maintained whilst ensuring acceptable safety, performance, cost and risk.Each appointed Asset Manager will be required to develop strategies for multiple systems as allocated by their line manager.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Business Knowledge- Sound commercial understanding
- Understand the cost v risk profile for CI's CML's
- Detailed working knowledge of SSE & SSEN Business processes & procedures
- Detailed understanding of SSEN Operational process & procedures for supply restoration
- Understanding of governance applied to safety critical engineering processes
- Degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent
- Good theoretical and practical understanding of telecommunication systems.
- Good understanding of the Operational Safety rules would be an advantage.
- Through understanding of Risk Assessment and mitigation processes applied to engineering processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills - applied to clear unambiguous technical documents
- Sound knowledge in multiple systems and associated architecture in some or all of the following :-
- Microwave, Fibre, Data Networking, TSAT, VSAT, Scanning Radio, LTE, PMR, GPRS, PDH/SDH Mux, meshed networks and identifying other technologies that can facilitate a smooth transition to DSO model.
- Sound knowledge in radio frequency (RF) planning with sufficient technical knowledge of Ofcom licencing process to acquire spectrum and contribute to Ofcom consultations.
- Good knowledge of scada, automation and protection
- Ability to develop and implement engineering strategy.
- Record of implementing new ideas.
- Ability to influence outside of the organisation with stakeholders such as BEIS/ENA.
- Calm logical unbiased approach to difficult situations, such as significant incident investigation.
- Excellent team player - able to persuade managers in the wider SSE to do the right thing for Networks and the wider SSE.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and complexity.
- Motivated and driven to succeed.
