The Plant and Soil Sciences Department operates across three sites (Edinburgh, Oatridge and Glasgow). The department undertakes research across a wide area, ranging from molecular analysis to glasshouse and field scale experiments. Staff deliver teaching onto courses in Agriculture, Biosciences, Soil science and Horticulture and plantsmanship. The vertical farm facility will be used for research and also to teach students modern plant production techniques.
The Opportunity:
We are looking to appoint a Technician who will be responsible for the new vertical farm unit being built at Kings Buildings. This includes the day to day running of the unit and the successful completion of research and education projects in the unit.
Main purpose of the job:
- Provide technical support for students and/or staff across a department/faculty, and provide leadership of this technical support function.
- Apply well-developed specialist technical skills and knowledge to support the successful delivery of teaching and/or research programmes.
You will be responsible for day to day running of the vertical farm unit, creating feeding regimes for plants, liaising with academic staff on projects for research and education, monitoring vertical farm environmental factors, identifying any issues with unit, maintaining inventory, facility tidiness, recording data, health and safety in unit.
Minimum Qualifications
The ideal candidate should be educated to SCQF Level 8 or above.
