Technical Manager - Ports

My client is an international leading steel company, with global ports, and primary steelmaking facilities in various countries. Their purpose is to produce smarter steels that have a positive benefit for people and the planet. Their steels have been made using innovative processes which use less energy, emit significantly less carbon, and reduce costs.

Due to company growth, they are now looking for an experienced and dynamic technical manager with experience working in the ports industry, to play a crucial role in overseeing and managing various technical aspects of port operations.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Overseeing the technical aspects of port operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, implementing modern technologies, managing infrastructure, and leading a team to maintain and improve the overall efficiency and safety of the port.
  • Working across port operations in collaboration with other departments (Operations, Workshops, Procurement, Finance, HS&S) to improve operational standards.
  • Responsible for the asset management and implementation of the equipment management and maintenance across ports globally. This includes technical installations and infrastructure.
  • Collate reports and equipment for Distributor Management Systems (DMS).
  • Ensure that all technical installations, vehicles, buildings, linkspans and infrastructure in the ports are procured efficiently, covered by the Health, Safety, Security and Maintenance Strategy, and comply with all relevant government and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in discussions with stakeholders on port facility development projects.
  • Analyse reports and undertaking various development projects.
  • Create reports and presentations for the management team.
  • Undertake risk assessments for material handling equipment, as well as dealing with any equipment breakdown.
  • Budget management - tracking budgets against ABP, optimising costs, and identifying opportunities for improvement and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Flexibility to travel, international travel once a month is required to the company's ports.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience at a within a ports environment, including managing both projects and leading teams.
  • Relevant Engineering or Surveying and Health & Safety qualifications (Level 3 NEBOSH or construction cert).
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management skills are required, and experience working with AUTOCAD.
