An experienced Technical Manager which a chemicals / lab/ production basis urgently required to bring together key aspects of the business from production to customer quality, involving pivotal communication between internal and external stakeholders. As an experienced/ lab manager you would be required to manage the laboratory and assist the manufacturing scale-up process of product development. As technical manager you would oversee and improve quality control methods to ensure that raw materials and finished products to meet specification requirements and comply with the Quality Control manual. As lab manager you would oversee customer solutions program to provide supporting feedback to the Field Technical Team. As technical manager you would collaborate with others to fulfil customer orders to company internal and external standards, including compliance with ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications, health & safety legislation and regulations, and Zero Harm policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all work performed by themselves, and team members is correctly conducted to meet the requirements of ISO 9001 and Company quality management standards.
  • Delegation and work planning for a small team of laboratory support scientist/technicians.
  • Ensurethe routine maintenance and calibration of equipment, and the control and maintenance of all laboratory’s raw material, standard solutions and retained samples
  • Ensure the transfer and trial of all newly developed analytical methods are successful, in collaboration with the R&D team.
  • Provide technical expertise on new analytical methods and where applicable troubleshoot any complex methodologies and technical equipment.
  • Carry out physical, chemical, and analytical testing of raw materials and finished products when required.
  • Release product that has passed Quality Control (QC) testing.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date, secure records of all work carried out, in accordance to required scientific, regulatory, data protection and information security requirements.
  • Write/review SOP’s, risk assessments, COSHH forms, Quality reports (e.g. analytical reports for raw materials and finished products), Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and stability reports when applicable to Company standards.
  • Assist the process of manufacturing scale-up of products that are in development and the resolution of technical and quality issues in production.
  • Support Company HS&E programmes.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Background University degree, or equivalent, in Chemistry or related scientific discipline
  • Several years of experience working in a laboratory gained from industry, academia, or consultancies/contract research organisation (CRO)
  • Experience in managing an analytical laboratory.
  • Experience as team leader and management of junior scientist and/or laboratory technicians.
  • Detailed understanding of analytical chemistry - sound understanding of organic/inorganic chemistry and process chemistry.
  • Experience of running and interpreting HPLC / AAS or ICP / XRF and particle size testing.
  • Experience troubleshooting analytical instrumentation, especially HPLC systems.
  • Good understanding and appreciation of quality management systems, quality risk assessments and the safe storage and handling of chemicals (e.g. COSHH regulations).
  • Ability to challenge the status quo, contribute to new ideas, foster and cultivate the corporate culture, engagement, diversity and sustainability ambitions.
  • Experienced with GMP, GLP and compliance with ISO 9001 (Desirable)
