Job Requirements of this Teaching Assistant job in Walsall

  • Experience working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs is essential.
  • Ability to support students in managing their emotions and behaviour effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience to work with challenging behaviours.
  • Understanding of special educational needs and the ability to adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to create a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications or Certificates:

  • Minimum of a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent is preferred.
  • Relevant safeguarding training and knowledge of child protection procedures.
  • Any additional qualifications or training related to supporting SEMH students would be advantageous.

Experience:

Prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a SEMH school or similar setting is highly desirable.

Experience implementing behaviour management strategies and supporting students with emotional regulation.

  • Familiarity with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and ability to support students in achieving their learning goals.
  • Experience working with young people with diverse needs and backgrounds.

Brief Overview of the Role:

  • The role involves working with students aged 11 to 16 years old.
  • The Teaching Assistant will provide individual and small group support to students with SEMH needs, assisting them in accessing the curriculum and developing essential life skills.
  • Responsibilities include implementing behaviour support plans, facilitating social and emotional learning activities, and providing academic support as directed by the teaching staff.
  • The role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of young people facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
