Your new School Hays are recruiting for a job as a Full-Time Teaching Assistant in Cardiff for a mainstream secondary school supporting a year 8 pupil with additional learning needs and some related aspects of challenging or difficult behaviour on a 1:1 basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with an excellent, well-respected, and highly supportive Secondary School in Cardiff. The school offers mainstream and ALN support for students aged 11-18 and prides itself on the creative and engaging learning environment its staff manage to create. The role itself shall consist of supporting a 13-year-old student in year 8 with additional learning needs within the school's mainstream classes. The student requires extra time, struggles to concentrate, and can become frustrated with academic work. However, they are generally well-behaved when supported. A key responsibility for this role is to ensure that the student is given the best chance of understanding and engaging with the work set by the class teacher. The role is full-time, long-term, and a fantastic opportunity to work with a school who look to recruit their agency workers on a permanent basis where possible.
Your new role.The role is confirmed long-term for an April start, working Full-Time 5 days a week. Duties relating to this role include but are not limited to:

  • Working 1:1 with a 13-year-old Year 8 pupil with additional learning needs and some aspects of challenging behaviour.
  • Demonstrating high levels of patience and empathy when dealing with potentially challenging behaviour or high levels of frustration from the student.
  • Creating and maintaining a safe and enjoyable learning environment.
  • Supporting the student with engagement in their academic work.
  • Working closely as part of a team with other members of the teaching staff.
  • Assisting teachers as they implement their creative and engaging lesson plans.

What you'll need to succeed To be considered for this role, it is required that you possess at least 40 days of relevant experience working with children over the course of the last 2 - 3 years.
