We are seeking dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistants to join our team. Our school provides a therapeutic and child-centred education to students aged 6 to 17 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), as well as other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). We are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with complex and challenging behaviours.

Day to day of the role:

  • Support teaching and learning activities tailored to individual student needs.
  • Work closely with children on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to facilitate learning and social development.
  • Manage classroom resources effectively to enhance the educational environment.
  • Accompany and supervise students on educational trips and visits.
  • Provide social support during lunchtimes for children who struggle with social interactions.
  • Utilise strong behaviour management skills to maintain a safe and supportive environment for students experiencing heightened behaviours.
  • Engage students in games and activities that promote social skills and reinforce learning.
  • Create inspiring classroom displays that support teaching and stimulate learning.
  • Celebrate student successes and contribute to a positive school culture.
  • Participate in therapeutic training sessions and reflect on practice to continuously improve.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A good basic understanding of English and Maths.
  • Experience in managing challenging behaviours and excellent communication skills.
  • Resilience, persistence, and a solution-focused attitude.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and needs of the students.
  • A non-judgemental approach and the ability to wear many hats in supporting our diverse student population.
  • Willingness to participate in extensive therapeutic training and professional development.
