Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our academic team in Kuwait at a time of ambitious growth for the British Council across adult, young learner and corporate English programmes in the Gulf region and specifically Kuwait. Kuwait is a bustling location that provides an excellent standard of living and has always appealed to international teachers.
This teaching position will most likely be as part of a team operating from a new location with modern, well-equipped classrooms. Teachers are expected to work across all products and age groups and may be asked to work across our centres in Kuwait City when operational needs arise. British Council Kuwait offers English language tuition to adults and young learners and is the largest YL teaching centre in the Gulf, providing you with great opportunities to develop your YL teaching to all our age groups.

The British Council supports teacher development through its performance enablement programme, internal and external training courses, support for action research projects and presenting at internal and external conferences. There are regular opportunities for more experienced teachers to take the next steps in their career by getting involved in mentoring, tutoring or training session delivery under the guidance of our experienced academic management and teaching excellence teams.


Accountabilities

  • Planning, preparing, and delivering high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles.
  • Monitoring progress and providing regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy.
  • Contributing to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials, and related services.
  • Ensuring teaching meets the standards expected in Teaching and Learning Reviews, the annual Academic Quality Plans, and organisational expectations.
  • Using technology during lessons when required.
  • Actively engaging in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain the British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
  • Ensuring safeguarding and other guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:

o Child protection

o Equality, diversity, and inclusion

o Health and Safety

Working with Children

  • Ability to work in a way that promotes the safety and well-being of children
  • Effective communication and engagement with children and their families
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development and its impact on learning and behaviour
  • Knowledge and understanding of positive disciplinary methods

Qualification

Essentials

  • Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL or equivalent
  • Undergraduate/University degree


Desirables

  • Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Diploma or equivalent
  • PGCE/B.Ed. in Primary or relevant subject
  • TYLEC or CELTYL
  • MA (TESOL or another related subject)

Work Experience

Essentials

  • Equivalent to around 2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL
  • Experience in teaching relevant age groups

o Primary aged 6 to 10 (200+ hours)

o Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (400+ hours)

o Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (200+ hours)

o Adults General English 18+ (400+ hours)

Desirables

  • Experience teaching MyClass, IELTS, Early Years, Primary + and Secondary +
  • Previous work history with the British Council
  • Experience teaching in a classroom environment similar to the British Council


Language Requirement

  • High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of the 4 sections of the academic module
