Penistone Grammar School has a vacancy for a full-time Teacher of English who has the enthusiasm and drive to join our excellent team of English professionals. The position also provides the opportunity to lead Literacy across the curriculum and continue to embed our reading culture at Penistone Grammar School.

  • Contract: Full time, Permanent
  • Salary Range: MPS/UPS with TLR 2B (£5347 per annum)
  • Start Date: September 2024


About the role:

You will be a first-class practitioner who will thrive upon the commitment our students have to their learning, a teacher who has the determination and talent to make a difference in the life of each and every student you teach; a teacher who shares our vision and can inspire our young people to achieve more than they believe is possible.
The successful candidate will have previous experience of teaching English with a proven track record at KS3 and KS4 or be enthusiastic about taking on the challenge that teaching to examination level will bring; for candidates with relevant experience there is potential to teach KS5.
For the TLR role, you will be passionate about developing and embedding our school-wide Literacy strategy across the curriculum so that our students are effective readers, writers and communicators, and fully understand the wider impact literacy has beyond examination results.

Responsibilities will include working collaboratively with colleagues to continue the embedding of a reading culture at PGS including the successful expansion of the library; improving student reading fluency, comprehension, and use of academic vocabulary; implementing 'Disciplinary Literacy' so that all students can read, write, and communicate effectively in all subject areas; leading a high impact reading intervention programme for our weaker readers.
