I am recruiting for a critical 2-month contract position for a Systems Accountant to join the British Transport Police. They are looking for a Systems Accountant to maintain the integrity of our organisation’s financial system. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing, maintaining, and updating financial delegations in the system to align with the organisational structure and authorities outlined in the Letter of Delegation. This role involves leading system compliance and continuous improvement projects, as well as managing all systems within Finance.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Maintain and develop robust processes and controls to ensure the integrity of the financial system.
  • Identify opportunities for control improvements and implement them effectively.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the delivery of financial processes, ensuring adherence to effective financial procedures.
  • Review and improve financial transaction processes within the system, streamlining where possible.
  • Manage the integration of financial processes and ensure systems are fit for purpose.
  • Lead the review and implementation of new systems and upgrades to existing ones.
  • Develop and implement Period-End and Year-End systems closedown procedures.
  • Oversee the review and corrective action against any error reports, liaising with the Financial Accountant regarding the impact on financial ledgers.
  • Provide systems advice, training, and guidance to users, ensuring the maintenance of complete and accurate financial information.
  • Manage and support the professional and technical development of staff within the team.
  • Responsible for the management of all systems within Finance (eFinancials, Paygate, eAnalyser, eProcurement, PIM, etc)
  • Developing, reviewing, implementing and updating appropriate policies and procedures for all aspects of the systems
  • Responsible for the preparation, maintenance and development of ‘fit-for-purpose’ reports within the system
  • Complete and accurate control of all systems environments ensuring integrity of financial systems data at all times.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A fully qualified member of one of the CCAB (ACCA, CIPFA, ICAEW, ICAI, ICAS) or a European or International equivalent qualification.
  • Significant experience as a user and developer of finance and procurement systems.
  • Understanding of SQL program language principles.
  • Experience in a senior position within a finance function.
  • Understanding of financial reporting frameworks and UK GAAP.
  • Experience of financial reporting in complex and/or geographically dispersed organisations.
  • Proven track record of building strong relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking skills to solve technical systems issues.
  • IT expertise, including SQL or other programming language skills.
  • Highly numerate with good Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical, creative, and strategic thinking abilities.
