The Role

We are looking for a soil technician to assist with site investigations, operate the soil sampling rig and manage the workshop and stores.

In the role, you will be given the opportunity to learn how to use our soil testing equipment, including how to perform around 10 different types of on-site tests. 

You will operate and manage our soil sampling rig, drilling shallow boreholes and take soil samples, as well as performing regular inspections and basic maintenance on the rig.

You will manage the workshop, ensuring soil samples are kept for the required length of time and then disposing of them in an appropriate way, as well as maintaining stock levels and performing inspections on equipment.

You will also be required to assist our team of engineers with larger site investigations, helping with hand digging, soil sampling and other duties as required, under the supervision of an engineer. 

Qualifications

No academic qualifications are necessary, and full training will be given.

Your technical competencies should include arithmetic and communication skills, and written English at a good level.  Experience of working on construction sites would be an advantage.

The following would be a distinct advantage:

  • NVQ - Driller or Soil Technician
  • Knowledge of on-site soil testing
  • Holder of a CSCS Card
  • Excellent communication skills

Our Investment in You

We will provide you with all of the necessary training to be able to complete this work.

In addition, we will coach you through an NVQ to be able to operate the drilling equipment.

We will also provide bespoke training including to be able to drive with our trailer, and EUSR Level 1 & Level 2 qualifications to help identify the location of buried services.

  • Starting salary of £25K - £35K (depending upon experience) including during training

Special Conditions

You must hold a full manual UK driving license (B+E).  You must also be able to demonstrate you eligibility to work in the UK.

The role will involve travelling and working away from home for approximately 2 - 3 nights per month.

The role will require the applicant to pass a DBS check, and sign the official secrets act.

This role will involve lifting drill tooling and bags of aggregate of up to 25 kg in weight.
