Metalis are currently working with a manufacturing company who are currently seeking an experienced Sliding Head Programmer/Turning Section Leader to join their team. Job Role: Section Lead, Turning

Salary: £20 per hour - dependant on experience, this is negotiable

Job Duties:

  • Machine Management: Take charge of the company's Star SX-38 sliding head machine with a 3m bar feed. Commission the machine and optimize its productivity to drive significant growth in product output. Manage data related to manufactured parts, ensuring seamless operation 24/7.

  • Production Planning: Plan work schedules meticulously to meet all production deadlines. Coordinate with various departments to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery of projects.

  • Project Management: Lead projects of varying budgets, complexities, and levels, ensuring successful completion within stipulated timelines and quality standards.

  • Manufacturing Process Improvement: Continuously improve manufacturing methods to meet the business's needs for short lead times and efficient machining processes.

  • Collaboration with Design: Liaise with the Design team to ensure accurate works routings, drawings, models, and samples are available for manufacturing. Provide feedback and collaborate on design improvements for efficient production.

  • Tooling Coordination: Coordinate tooling requirements, innovate as necessary, and ensure availability of necessary tools for uninterrupted production. Maintain a fully stocked tool dispenser.

  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure all manufactured parts undergo first-off inspection and adhere to quality and H&S management systems (ISO9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018). Enforce the use of appropriate PPE and maintain a clean and safe working environment.

  • Team Management: Supervise the Turning team, including task allocation, cross-training, performance management, and maintaining high levels of team morale and engagement.

  • Maintenance and Servicing: Manage machine servicing plans, implement preventative maintenance procedures, and oversee repairs and breakdowns to minimize downtime. Monitor oil levels and coolant changes for optimal machine performance.

  • Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement across the company, identifying and implementing opportunities for enhancing efficiency and productivity.

  • Emergency Response: Fulfill the role of First Aider and Fire Warden, ensuring team members are trained and prepared for emergencies.

  • Administrative Duties: Assist with job costing, quotations, and the development of standard operating procedures. Undertake internal and external audits as required.

  • Factory Operations: Assist in opening and closing the factory each day, adhering to security, H&S, and operational procedures.

Experience & Requirements:

  • 10 years' manufacturing experience in an engineering business.
  • 3 years' experience in a hands-on supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of modern machining techniques, programming, and the latest developments in tooling.
  • Forklift and first aid qualifications would be very useful
  • Must be able to within the UK and abroad
  • Extensive experience of sliding head machines is essential
  • Must be proficient in writing programmes using Fanuc Controls with NC assist, or ideally through Solid Cam
