The opportunity:

We have a great opportunity for a Senior Underwriter to join our PMR team based in either our Birmingham, Manchester or Leeds offices. The role will be responsible for underwriting new business cases within Financial Lines - Professional & Management Risks. Reporting into the Head of Financial New Business Sales, you will be working within a stable and experienced team of 8 other Underwriters. We ideally would like someone with experience in Financial Lines, PI, Media or Management Risks and any broker development experience would be ideal.

What you'll be doing:

  • Provide and maintain a good level of underwriting, demonstrate a detailed knowledge of company guidelines and authority levels
  • Review broker generated quotes and encourage brokers to place the business with Markel by highlighting our product benefits and negotiating terms
  • Maintain existing broker relationship through regular development meetings in conjunction with the Head of Financial Lines Sector Sales and Business Development Managers
  • Handle workflow from enquiry receipt to outcome through the Markel workflow platforms
  • Actively seek new business prospects utilising the CRM system accordance with the CRM Working Practices guide

Our must haves:

  • Previous Underwriting experience within Professional Indemnity and Information Technology underwriting and/or underwriting portfolios and binders is beneficial
  • Working with a specialist broker panel is preferred
  • Good communication skills - verbal & written
  • Experience dealing with clients by email and telephone
  • Previous experience with proactively managing own workflow
