Job title: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Hours: Full Time (37.5 hours)
Location: Livingston or Glasgow
Salary: Up to £62.5k + Car allowance 

Overall Purpose of the Role:

The overall purpose of the role is to provide commercial support across all business streams concerning financial and contractual matters arising through the management of various contracts and projects. Offering support to the business streams you will provide advice to allow projects to be delivered on time and to budget. You will liaise with our clients clients and external parties on commercial issues such as contract agreement of variations, claims and payments.

The post holder will be responsible for the main points as listed below:

• Provide Commercial expertise within designated projects to maximise returns
• Produce accurate monthly cost and value forecasting of all projects and manage change control
• Implement effective commercial processes across the business
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external parties
• Maintain and enhance profitability and minimise risk by applying best commercial practice
• Ensure positive cashflow at all times
• Promote Commercial awareness within the business

Main Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• Build and maintain professional relationships with both internal and external parties
• Prepare and send enquiries to sub-contractors inviting them to tender
• Seek to minimize the cost of a project and enhance value for money whilst still achieving the required standards and quality
• Prepare and manage cash flow forecasts
• Notify in writing both successful and unsuccessful subcontractors in a timely manner
• Contract and sub-contract management and administration as required
• Certification of payment applications from subcontractors
• Compilation of costs for compensation events and the management of change
• Management of Change Control including Early Warnings and Compensation Events
• Assist to avoid disputes with clients, suppliers and subcontractors
• Production of CVRs and analysis of same
• Prepare and process formal documentation for sub-contractor payments
• Preparing valuations for payment applications to the client
• Assisting in the compilation of commercial / contractual responses to the client and subcontractors
• Monitor and report on expenditure on contracts compared to budgets and forecasts
• Give feedback to the relevant parties with regards to contract pricing and profit and loss
• Contribute to and attend financial and progress meetings with clients and sub-contractors as required
• Produce relevant monthly reports
• Monitor all costs relating to a project from tender to final account stage
• Keep track and report on any variances that may impact cost and completion dates
• Analysis and interrogation of costs compared to budget and forecasts
• Perform risk, value management and cost control activities
• Updating project risk registers
• Keep up to date with changes to industry legislation, Assisting the estimators with the preparation & presentation of tender submissions

Desired Knowledge, Experience & Skills – Key Competencies:

• Degree qualified or professional qualification accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or equivalent experience
• Highly Competent in MS Excel and Word
• Able to interpret and understand contract documents, scopes of works and contract drawings
• Skilled in financial cost control, value recovery and change management
• Experience within the Construction and/or Engineering industry
• Experience within the water industry desirable
• Detailed working knowledge of NEC3 Conditions of Contract
• Strong communication skills- written and oral
• Team player
• Experience in dispute avoidance
• Ability to work to strict deadlines
• Good presentation skills
