SENIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR, DEVELOPING INTO A COMMERCIAL MANAGER.

My client, a very successful and well established consultancy business (circa 20 staff) with a large client base is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager for a long term development role (approx 12 - 24 months from SQS to Commercial Manager).

The salary is very broad/negotiable intentionally and will be based on the experience that can be brought to the role.

This role is exclusively with us.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

PROJECT SPECIFIC TASKS, including but not limited to:

PRE-CONTRACT - Main Tasks:

  • Liaison with Clients, and Design Team members to clarify brief etc.
  • Providing advice on procurement route and forms of contracts.
  • Close coordination and interaction with the project design team, as required.
  • Compiling initial Budget Cost Plans.
  • Attending Design Team meetings.
  • Compiling Tender documents including Schedule of Works, Contract Terms, & Conditions, Preliminaries documents. On occasion undertaking take off’s to establish quantities.
  • Overseeing Tender Process - liaising with Contractors and Design Team members to resolve project specific queries etc.
  • Undertaking detailed Tender review process, compiling Tender reports and Recommendations, and delivery to clients and/or their advisors.
  • Compiling Contract documents and coordinating their Signature.

POST-CONTRACT - Main Tasks:

  • Undertaking the Contract Administrators role and/or QS role on projects.
  • Chairing Project Progress meetings and taking minutes.
  • Issuing Instructions, valuing variations, checking, and agreeing valuations.
  • Completing regular projects financial reports.
  • Liaison with Design Team and Contractors as required.
  • Close Client liaison, and Client relationship development.
  • Checking and agreeing Final Accounts including the issuing of all certificates.

COMPANY RELATED DUTIES:

  • Overseeing QS Team (Currently 1nr existing QS employed by the company).
  • Overall responsibility for all financial and contractual matters.
  • Liaison with Clients - Client account manager where applicable.
  • Overseeing monthly invoicing, liaising with Accounts Dept. regarding overdue payments etc.
  • Reviewing/agreeing Client’s Contract Agreement documents and Collateral Warranties.
  • Assisting in the Compilation and Maintenance of company Revenue Forecast, Overhead Forecast, and Cash Flow Forecasts as required by the Directors.
  • General liaison with Directors & Board Members, regarding financial and contractual matters. Continued//2
  • A good understanding of construction processes & detailing is essential, along with first hand experience of the various forms of Construction Contracts. The ability to work as a proactive, forward thinking, and self-driven member of the project professional team and to provide commercial, contractual, and financial advice when called upon to do so.
  • In addition to the QS/CA duties, on occasion there will be the requirement to undertaking some Project Management services such as liaison & coordination with the Contractors and Design Team to resolve issues on site, reviewing programme, checking quality of workmanship on site, completing site reports, and providing associated client facing liaison.
  • These roles will require regular travel primarily in the SW & SE of the UK and occasionally other areas of the UK. The position is based in Taunton, Somerset and ideally, our staff are required to live within a max of 1hr drive from the office.
