Job Description: Senior / Pincipal Stress Engineer / Structural Engineer

Mechanical Engineering serves as the cornerstone of all our endeavours. In this pivotal role as a Senior / Principal Stress Engineer / Structural, you will spearhead the structural verification of product designs, ensuring compliance with both customer and regulatory specifications for in-service or developmental projects. Your duties will entail effectively communicating key findings to project integrated teams and the company's airworthiness authority, while providing technical counsel across all stress engineering activities. Collaboration with multi-disciplinary project teams, engaging with internal and external customers, and closely liaising with engineers from diverse backgrounds will be fundamental aspects of your role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate mechanical designs for strength, durability, performance, and safety in adherence to regulatory and customer requirements, utilising methodologies such as finite element techniques and classical hand calculations.
  • Offer expert guidance on structural design enhancements concerning component sustainability and manufacturing considerations.
  • Provide recommendations for component or sub-assembly optimisation, focusing on aspects like mass reduction and part count reduction.
  • Support the selection of manufacturing technologies and materials based on a robust understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Assist in all structural facets of product development, from conceptualisation to testing and certification.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering, supplemented by post-graduate experience in stress and vibration engineering.
  • Professional accreditation as a Chartered Engineer or demonstrated associated competencies are advantageous.
  • Experience in electronics packaging design, aerospace systems equipment development, and familiarity with environmental testing standards (RTCA DO160 and MIL-STD-810) is desirable.
  • Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), particularly Siemens Simcenter & Nastran, and adeptness in classical hand calculations are essential.
  • Experience in environmental testing methods and post-processing of test results for design verification is highly desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are imperative, given the significant interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously within a team setting.
