This role involves supporting the cars side of the business, within the technical management and maintenance of existing production lines and development. The ideal candidate will be expected to introduce new processes and tooling, to support new products to those lines and will be working within an office, paint shop and production line environment.

 The role provides the opportunity to undertake a wide range of tasks and enables the successful candidate to work with many different areas of the business. There will be opportunities to make benefits to the cars business in its day to day activities and influence the way it could operate in the future.

 The ideal candidate will also be required to investigate opportunities to embrace new technologies and innovations into the Lotus manufacturing environment, to improve both efficiencies and the overall product quality.

 Domestic & international travel may be required, by agreement.

 Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Promote and maintain a healthy, safe, and clean working environment.
  • Production & project support.
  • Support investigations of concern/problem resolution.
  • Identify build issues / concerns and make relevant the parties aware.
  • Follow all actions for resolution on the Continuous Improvement tracking system.
  • Creation of production manufacturing-assignments, aligned to the manufacturing build requirements (as defined via the Sales & Operations business plan).
  • Study the operations sequence, material flow, fixturing / tooling, process documents / statements, with the aim of improving the line balancing, throughput, and efficient working procedures.
  • Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace, to illustrate maximum efficiency.
  • Creation / development and maintenance of process sheets, from engineering released data (PCO).
  • Publish clear and concise information, including all aspects of Manufacturing / Method / Machine (tooling) / Material to manufacturing.
  • Identify and evaluate individual training needs for primary operators and provide training plans, to ensure that standardised processes are followed, and that safety and quality documented care-points are adhered to.
  • Co-ordinate "On the Job" training for new processes with manufacturing staff.
  • Perform time studies for all Product / Process / Component changes, to ensure manufacturing's ability to achieve the required Quality / Cost / Deliver elements.
  • Perform periodic process audits, to ensure products are being built to be released.
  • Support the implementation, control, and closure of Deviations from standard production processes.
  • Support new tooling / fixtures design & development, specification, procurement, installation & commissioning, for the introduction into the manufacturing environment.
  • May require the formulation of business case / budgets, as part of improvements to processes or tooling etc.
  • Prove out new tooling and fixtures and provide constructive feedback.
  • Timescales to introduce or make changes, resolve issues.

 Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

Essential:

  • BTEC/ NVQ in Engineering.
  • Previous manufacturing, production engineering knowledge.
  • MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Project experience.
  • Use of process & MES systems.
  • Logical thinker for problem solving and process planning.
  • Used to working in a production environment.
  • Out-going, pro-active team player.
  • Self -motivated & driven to succeed.
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude, eye for detail, flexibility, methodical and measured approach.

Desirable:  

  • HNC/ HND/ Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • Lean thinking or six sigma trained.
  • MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project & Access.
  • Team Centre, Lotus PPDM, PSS & DRF systems AutoCAD / Catia or another cad package.
  • Very good working knowledge of niche vehicle & OEM automotive industries.
  • Knowledge of robotic paint application.
