We are happy to be recruiting for one of our high-profile utilities clients. They are currently looking for a Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join them for an initial 6-month contract. However, there may be scope for extension or even a more permanent opportunity.

Role Purpose:

The Senior Health & Safety Advisor will play a vital role in leading and protecting our people, our assets and partners at Daldowie Fuel Plant. They will use their expert knowledge and experience lead and advise on suitable risk controls, and work to ensure that the organisation meets relevant H&S legislation and standards. Working as part of a wider HSE & Governance team, the Senior Health and Safety Advisor will work closely with our Operations, Maintenance and Engineering teams to provide leadership and promote safety and teamwork across the site.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Creates an open "challenging" culture of communication to facilitate learning, to motivate individuals and teams alike throughout all stages of the work process to support sustained Health & Safety improvements.
  • Leads the delivery of the Behavioural Safety programme.
  • Attend regular site meetings, investigations, internal meeting etc., to support the management teams in the delivery of outstanding H&S performance.
  • Takes a leading role in the development of local health & safety plans, training requirements and deliver compliance to legal and other regulatory requirements.
  • Keep up to date with changes to legislation and standards where applicable, recommend and develop changes to systems and processes.
  • Leads the development and implementation of new health & Safety processes, procedures and work instructions and their updating.
  • Provide timely reporting to the HSE & Governance Manager and local site leadership as requested.
  • Identifies training needs, the development of training programme and/or change management programmes.
  • Participate in incident investigations/serious Incident Reviews as required.
  • Carry out site audits both individually and where appropriate jointly with Contractors and ensure these are recorded on and filed in the relevant systems. Follow up on any actions arising, raising items of concern and non-compliance to HSE & Governance Manager and local site leadership.
  • Leads in the delivery / execution or planning, organising, and facilitating site-based emergency drills.
  • Leads site health and safety meetings.
  • Drive improvements in reporting, including colleagues to raising hazard observations, and positive observations.
  • Ensure monthly KPIs statistics and other H&S data are provided to central HSE & Governance team monthly and with specified reporting timescales.
  • Leads the business in driving cultural and behavioural change and improvements in a diverse- working environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience required:

  • Proven track record of leading & delivering H&S improvements in a similar site-based role
  • Hold a recognised qualification in Occupational Health & Safety - NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent as a minimum. (Level 6 / Hons degree).
  • Experience in Energy, Engineering, Manufacturing or Construction sector.
  • Professional membership (or working towards) a relevant safety or occupational health professional body such as the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
  • Detailed knowledge of current Health & Safety Legislation.
  • Lead Auditor Qualification in ISO 45001 would be an advantage
  • Experience of working with and applying H&S policies and strategies within a process manufacturing environment.
  • Work cross functionally across all plant areas and business functions promoting cohesion across the organisation.
  • Track record and/or qualification in the delivery of local H&S training to site -based teams
  • Understand chemical process facility environments and relevant hazards likely to be encountered.
  • Be a Team Player with an ability to demonstrate a high level of Interpersonal skills to liaise with all levels of staff and contractors.
  • Demonstrate an ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels in the organisation to drive improvements and to motivate / and influence colleagues and contractors to implement and action advice where given.
  • Have excellent communication skills with a well-structured, practical, systematic and hands-on approach.
  • The ability to identify and analyse problems, understand risks and implement appropriate solutions.

Location:

This is an on-site working role, with a requirement to work from the clients Daldowie Fuel Plant 5 days a week.

Working hours:

Standard working hours with some flex where required.
