Senior Facility Design Engineer

Location: Reading / Basingstoke Area

Package: £42,650 - £65,000 (dependent on experience)

Opportunities exist for candidates from either Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, C&I, Civil Structural & Architectural (CS&A), Process Engineering background who have experience of the Design phase of facilities project and leading the review of design submissions with respect to relevant good practice, appropriate safety considerations (conventional, explosive and/or nuclear) compliance with legislation, company standards, processes and more.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Leading the review of engineering design solutions to ensure they fully comply with all AWE and UK legal requirements together with AWE requirements

  • Facilitating the creation and review of Design Control Plans for projects, and understanding progress against those

  • Monitoring the co-ordination of engineering design activities of all design houses and other suppliers of engineering design contributing to the projects

  • Monitoring Project changes as they affect the delivery of the design intent of projects and work packages therein

  • Contributing to integrated safety when reviewing engineering designs and ensure that all technical and design risks are identified and appropriately managed to meet project requirements and the letter and intent of the CDM Regulations, including discharging the designer's role

  • Ensuring that sufficient consideration in terms of time, costs and stakeholders are built into project schedules to ensure that designs are adequately and proportionally reviewed

Whilst not to be considered a check list, candidates should be able to demonstrate some of the following:

  • An understanding of the design process to deliver either Conventional or Nuclear facilities, associated building services and process plant and equipment

  • Previous design management experience of multiple or discrete engineering packages of works that provide a design solution to a set of requirements in either the Conventional or Nuclear industries

  • Good technical and management skills including problem solving and decision making

  • Good oral, written and presentational skills with a particular aptitude for report, documentation and letter writing

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective communication to all levels to both internal and external personnel

  • Ideally, we would expect candidates to have a Degree or equivalent qualification in a science or engineering discipline or equivalent vocational qualification

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role and be willing and able to travel within the UK and overseas as required (if applicable) once restrictions are lifted.
