Job title: Senior Environmental Advisor

Location: Water Orton, Birmingham (B46)

Contract length: 6 month rolling contract - Potential to be extended

IR35 Status: Inside of scope

Balfour Beatty are looking to appoint a Senior Environmental Advisor to work on their Birmingham area of the exciting HS2 project. This is a 6 month rolling contract with potential to be extended further and to be based fully on site in the Water Orton area of Birmingham.

The successful Senior Environmental Advisor will have previous experience in a similar Construction based Senior Environmental Advisor capacity (Infrastructure experience is advantageous) and would be beneficial to have an Environmental Science or related Degree. The Senior Environmental Advisor will oversee the Environmental compliance and sustainability for the works undertaken on the Sublot and will be responsible for inspections, audits and reporting of relevant compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the sites Environmental compliance including inspections and audits of construction teams

  • Reporting of relevant compliance and sustainability of the sublot

  • Report on the site’s environmental performance against the Project’s objectives and targets.

  • Manage onsite Environmental Site inspections, highlighting any bad and good practice to the relevant teams and Senior Management

  • Record and report all incidents to all relevant parties and instigate corrective actions required.

  • Liaises with the community liaison officer regarding complaints from third parties on noise, dust and or other environmental issues.

  • Support with activities such as Incident Investigations and Toolbox Talks

  • Report into Regional Environmental Manager

  • Be fully embedded in the day to day operations of the relevant construction teams on site

  • Promote positive environmental and sustainability values on site

Key Skills / Experience

  • Previous construction experience in a Senior Environmental Advisor role

  • Experience in mentoring other Environmental Advisors

  • Ideally have an Environmental Science or related Degree

  • Previous Infrastructure project experience is beneficial

  • Previous experience in conducting site inspections

  • A sound understanding of environmental legislation and principles of environmental management systems

  • Understanding of the benefits of working collaboratively to obtain the best outcome

  • Ideally have a valid CSCS card

  • Good communication skills - both written and verbal

  • Determination to see tasks through to completion, with excellent planning and organisation skills
