Your new role
Reporting to Head of Legal, the Senior Environment and Planning Solicitor will provide focused, accurate, effective and timely legal advice, analysis and support to the relevant business function on environmental and planning issues to enable the business function to meet /manage its objectives, including:

  • Wide range of BAU environmental and planning legal matters;
  • Assisting with legal aspects of environmental resource management
  • Supporting Infrastructure projects such as NSIP
  • Assisting with Environmental Information Regulation queries received from our EIR Officer and responses
  • Managing external legal resources

Some strategic input is expected, including the setting of policy and recommending improvements to processes and procedures within the area of specialism across the business.
Provide advice (legal and practical) in a clear, useable way, enabling others (at whatever level in the business) to immediately understand key facts and issues.
Identify areas of risk for the company in relation to environmental, planning, and related regulatory matters and either directly provide or work with others to implement solutions to manage these risks.

Draft complex legal documents in relation to environmental, planning, and related regulatory matters.

New strategic water sources are necessary in the South East of England, particularly in Hampshire, to keep local taps and rivers flowing today and in the future. Our programme will enable us to create greater water resilience for our customers and the environment, whatever the weather. Between now and 2030 (and beyond), we are investing in substantial infrastructure to improve how we source, treat and supply water across the South East region.

What you\'ll need to succeed

  • Qualified solicitor/barrister with post-qualification experience in environmental and planning law and practice in England & Wales (ideally not less than 5 years PQE, but other relevant experience would be considered).
  • Previous experience working on environment and planning issues is essential.
  • Technical expert in their field and preferably an acknowledged authority.
  • Knowledge of statutory and environmental regulations within the UK water industry
