The Senior Capital Accountant will be responsible for the accurate management and reporting of the local authority's capital expenditure, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and policies.

The role will support the effective use of resources and provide advice to budget holders and senior management.

Qualifications

  • A recognised professional accountancy qualification/part qualification (e.g. CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent.
  • Desirable - Educated to degree level.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of financial regulations and accounting standards relevant to local government.
  • Experience of managing capital accounting processes, including the preparation of capital budgets and monitoring of expenditure.
  • Experience of supporting and challenging budget holders responsible for capital projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide financial advice and guidance to budget holders.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders across the organisation.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Desirable - Knowledge of local government finance and budgetary processes.
  • Desirable - Understanding of procurement processes and contract management.

Experience

  • Significant experience of working in a financial monitoring role, with a focus on capital accounting.
  • Experience of working in a team environment.
  • Desirable - Experience of using financial software packages.
