Part-Time SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)

Position: Part-Time SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)

Location: Colchester primary school

Start Date: September 2024

Contract Type: Part-Time, Permanent 2- 3days a week

Primary school is seeking a dedicated and experienced SENCO to join our team on a part-time basis starting in September 2024. As the SENCO, you will play a crucial role in coordinating provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring that every child has access to the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the school's SEND policy and provision map.
  • Coordinate the identification, assessment, and provision of support for students with SEND, working closely with teachers, parents, and external agencies.
  • Provide guidance and support to teachers in adapting teaching strategies and resources to meet the diverse needs of students with SEND.
  • Maintain accurate records of students with SEND, including Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs, ensuring that progress is regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that the school meets statutory requirements and follows best practices in SEND provision.
  • Support the professional development of staff through training and sharing of expertise in SEND.
  • Liaise with external agencies, including local authorities, health professionals, and support services, to access additional support for students with complex needs.
  • Act as a point of contact for parents/carers of students with SEND, providing regular updates on their child's progress and involving them in decision-making processes.

SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) Requirements:

  • Qualified SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) with experience working in a primary school setting.
  • A recognised qualification in Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCO) or willingness to work towards one.
  • Sound knowledge of SEND legislation, including the SEND Code of Practice, and experience implementing strategies to support students with SEND.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion and raising the achievement of students with SEND.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance and relevant safeguarding training.
