SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Meldreth, NrRoyston, Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire border

Salary: £11.72 - £12.78 per hour (£20,941.63 - £22,834.95 actual salary)

Job Type: Full-time, Term time only

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our highly specialist team at a well-resourced independent Special day school. The school caters to students aged 6 to 19 with a range of moderate to severe learning difficulties, including autism spectrum disorders and associated challenges. This role is ideal for someone passionate about creating better outcomes and life chances for students as they prepare for adult life.

Day to day of the role:

  • Support students with their learning, development, and progress across the curriculum in various contexts, including the classroom, local environment, and community.
  • Assist young people with a range of needs, such as PMLD, complex medical conditions, and autism, to achieve their educational and personal goals.
  • Foster an environment that promotes equality, diversity, and respect for all students as learners.
  • Emphasise support and empowerment of young people.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Special Education issues and demonstrate the values of our school in all aspects of the role.
  • Provide high-quality support in all aspects of the role, which may include physical intervention and personal care routines.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Willingness to work towards formal qualifications and attend training.
  • Passion and compassion for children and young people with additional needs.
  • Ambition to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Enthusiasm for outdoor and community learning.
  • Ability to see potential rather than disability.
  • Commitment to safeguarding values and procedures.
  • Proactive and creative thinking with a solution-focused approach.
  • Excellent team player and able to work independently with confidentiality.
  • Strong communication skills tailored to students’ needs.
  • Educated to at least level 2 (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
