SEN Teaching Assistant

A school in the Horsforth area is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. This role involves working with a Year 5 student with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, providing the necessary support to enhance their learning experience and help them concentrate better.

Day to day of the role:
  • Provide one-to-one support to a Year 5 student with SEMH needs, helping them to engage with the curriculum.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support the child’s concentration and participation in classroom activities.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to tailor learning activities to the student’s individual needs.
  • Monitor the student’s progress and provide feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment that promotes positive behaviour and inclusion.
  • Assist with the development of social skills by encouraging positive interactions with peers.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably with SEN children.
  • Understanding of SEMH needs and strategies to support children with these needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach to student support.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
