Job Title: SEN Learning Support Assistant

Salary/Rate: £92.11- £105 per day

Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm

Location: Islington

Milk Education are in partnership with a SEN school in Islington who cater for students aged 5-19 with a primary diagnosis of autism, who are seeking a full-time Learning Support Assistant to work in a KS2 class. The Learning Support Assistant role will be to support both students and the class teacher with day to day interventions and running of the classroom.  You must be pro-active and confident to support students who have additional needs including cognitive impairment, speech and language difficulties or difficulties associated with social communication on a 1:1 basis and in a group capacity when required to do so.

The successful candidate will work closely with both staff and pupils in various subject areas, supporting the learning of pupils with SEND across our school curriculum. The role includes bringing a positive attitude to encourage and build upon pupils unique strengths and work to develop strategies to overcome and cope with their difficulties. This school prides themselves on building every students confidence and self-esteem to prepare them for future prospects.

We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant that is:

  • Able to work with individuals as well as small groups, assisting in planning and delivering lessons in a creative and positive setting.
  • Able to model, within a classroom setting, support strategies that will encourage and develop appropriate behaviour in a variety of settings i.e with individuals and groups/whole class
  • Be a confident, passionate teacher preferable with SEN experience
  • Excellent in English skills (clear written and spoken English) along with good reading, writing and numeracy skills.
  • Someone that will help maintain an effective learning environments for pupils with complex needs -  safe, calm, structured. To maintain a calm manner when support pupils behaviour and follow agreed procedures, in line with our Behaviour & Wellbeing Policy.
  • Able to develop positive relationships with parents, family and other professionals involved in the pupils’ care and promote team working and good working relationships with colleagues.
  • Able to undertake playground duties, encouraging co-operative play, assisting with playground games and helping teaching staff in maintaining appropriate behaviour in the playground in line with school policy.
  • To commit to undertake training relevant to the post and maintain an overall awareness of current issues and developments in the field of SEN.
