Lead of RE

  • Job Type: Fixed term contract, 1 year
  • Salary: Teacher pay scale + TLR
  • Start Date: September 2024

We are currently seeking an inspirational Lead of RE to join our secondary school in the heart of Weston-super-Mare. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and enhancing the delivery of the Religious Education curriculum, as well as promoting the spiritual, moral, and cultural development of students.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Develop and implement a challenging and engaging RE curriculum across all key stages.
  • Lead and manage the RE department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning are maintained.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, implementing strategies to address any areas of underperformance.
  • Encourage a reflective and respectful learning environment that celebrates diversity and promotes understanding.
  • Organise and facilitate school events and activities related to Religious Education, such as assemblies and interfaith dialogues.
  • Collaborate with other departments to create interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Engage with parents, carers, and the wider community to support the holistic development of students.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • A recognised teaching qualification with a specialism in Religious Education.
  • Experience in leading a subject or department within a secondary school setting.
  • A strong understanding of the current RE curriculum and assessment frameworks.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • The ability to motivate and inspire both staff and students.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and a reflective approach to teaching practice.
