Summary

Due to an internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity to join our team as Retail Manager for the Batemans and Bodiam Portfolio. Covering both properties, you’ll play an important part in helping visitors enjoy their day. You’ll be generating crucial funds for the National Trust to invest in protecting and caring for places, so people and nature can thrive. What it's like to work here

Reporting to the Area Manager, you'll be leading a small team of 3 retail team leaders, retail assistants and retail volunteers. You'll be part of the leadership team for the Batemans and Bodiam portfolio, working closely with the General Manager and the wider team, actively involved in making decisions that affect the whole place. This is a dual site role and involves Duty Management responsibilities.

What you'll be doing

Your focus every day will be on your customers: going out of your way to make sure they’re having their best possible day. You'll lead by example, inspiring your team and encouraging them to speak to customers.   You’ll make sure that everyone who buys something knows just what a difference their contribution, however small, will make to the Trust’s work in protecting nature, beauty and history.  

You'll set stretching targets for the team and work together to achieve these through the highest standards of customer service and presentation of retail products.

You’ll also be required to work some weekends and bank holidays.

Who we're looking for We'd love to hear from you if you’re:
  • an experienced retail manager, familiar with standard processes (including selling, merchandising, space management, stock control, risk management)
  • skilled in coaching, developing and leading teams 
  • experienced in managing rotas and recruiting staff
  • adept at getting maximum sales out of a retail outlet  
  • experienced in a role working across multiple sites
